There are several reasons why your vaccination status may fail to be found. It is possible that your administering agency may not have reported your vaccination yet. It is also important to note that if your record on file with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) does not exactly match the First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, and Zip Code information present on your license or ID, your record will fail to be found.
To have this corrected, please contact your healthcare provider or use the Health Card Assistance feature in the menu to contact the LA Wallet/LDH support team for assistance.

Through legislation, the uniqueness of LA Wallet is derived from its recognition as a digital credential, on par with the issued plastic credential. The power and opportunity of LA Wallet comes from its real-time connections to the documents of record of both the Department of Public Safety for identity and status, and now, the Louisiana Department of Health for COVID-19 vaccination status. All of this is carefully curated through HIPAA-compliant channels and permissively granted by each citizen wishing to participate. Via these channels, the LA Wallet app confirms the user’s identity in real-time from the Louisiana OMV database and retrieves the user’s verified vaccine status in real-time from the Louisiana Department of Health.
To begin, you must have the LA Wallet app installed on your iOS or Android SMART device and a valid, Louisiana issued license or ID linked to your LA Wallet account. Our team has put together a short instructional video explaining the process here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vppj7oNCI3U Once you have the LA Wallet app opened and your credential linked, you will see a tab labeled “COVID-19.” Tapping this tab will proceed to a disclaimer screen with additional information and resources, along with a “Retrieve SMART Health Card” button. Tap this button to display your SMART Health Card and Covid-19 vaccination status. That’s all! You can choose to stop displaying your SMART Health Card at any time by pressing the “Remove SMART Health Card” button.

Presenting your COVID-19 vaccination status and SMART Health Card via LA Wallet’s COVID-19 Economic Impact program is purely voluntary, but there are numerous benefits. Restaurants and a host of public venues, for example, could open to 100% capacity by allowing COVID-19 vaccinated and recently tested individuals by showing their LA Wallet with COVID-19 status enabled. As depicted below, just a quick view by a host or hostess of a restaurant can see the authoritative, real-time COVID-19 status of a patron, matched with their official ID photo which again, is pulled directly from the issuing authority of the State of Louisiana.

LA Wallet utilizes HIPAA-compliant channels with the Louisiana Department of Health to retrieve and display your COVID-19 vaccination status in real-time. Your vaccination status will be available as soon as it is reported by the administering clinical professional, meaning your status should be up to date and ready to display the same day (note that reporting times may differ for different administering agencies). Generally, this should take between 24-48 hours after your completed vaccination.
LA Wallet will be unable to display a vaccination status for you if it has not yet been reported by the administering clinical professional. While this typically happens the same day, reporting times may differ for different administering agencies.
If you have confirmed that the clinic has uploaded your vaccination to the LINKS database, use the Health Card Assistance feature in the menu to contact the LA Wallet/LDH support team for assistance.

In order for your COVID vaccination record to show up in your LA Wallet app, your information must be entered into the Louisiana Immunization Network, LINKS. This needs to be done by a Louisiana health care provider. To have this done, please visit any of your providers in Louisiana and bring your vaccination record (card). Your Louisiana provider can enter the information into LINKS. If you prefer, you can visit a Parish Health Unit – bring your card – and the staff there can access LINKS and enter your COVID vaccination.

To resolve either of these issues, please reach out to your dependent's healthcare provider to have the data corrected in the LINKS database. Alternatively, you may use the Health Card Assistance feature in the menu to contact the LA Wallet/LDH support team for assistance.
Yes. The dependent's healthcare provider must determine your guardianship and access to that person's medical records. The healthcare provider will need to add you as a guardian on your dependent's vaccination record in the Louisiana Department of Health in the LINKS Immunization database.
The name of the guardians on your child or dependent's vaccination record must match the name on the driver's license or state ID linked in LA Wallet. If an abbreviated name is used, misspelled, or does not match in any other way to the driver's license/state ID, then it will not allow you to add that dependent.
To resolve this, please reach out to your dependent's healthcare provider to have your name added to the vaccination record in the LINKS database.

If you know all the information on your most current license/ID, including the audit number, you can add your license/ID to LA Wallet. If you do not know your audit number, you will need to visit an OMV or Public Tag Agent to request a new license/ID.
Your digital license is valid until the expiration date on your physical license, usually six years from original issue date. When it comes time to renew your physical license, you will need to purchase a new digital license through LA Wallet. For instance, if your regular license expires in one year, and you purchase a LA Wallet digital driver’s license, your digital license will also expire in one year.
To renew your license or ID using LA Wallet, you will need to first add your license or ID to the app. Once your license/ID has been added, you should be automatically prompted to renew your license on the home screen. You can also view the instructions with other important information in this video.
The standard price for renewing a license is $32.50, plus a $23.00 convenience fee approved for all Public Tag Agents. All license and renewal charges are set by the Louisiana OMV with legislative approvals for convenience fees. A breakout of all charges will be presented and approved by the citizen during the renewal process within LA Wallet.
A benefit of renewing inside of LA Wallet is that your new digital ID will be updated as soon as it is issued by the Louisiana OMV. You will not have to wait for your renewed physical ID in order to begin using the newly issued ID.
Our support team has received hundreds of suggestions for improvements to LA Wallet and our developers have been working on new features to make the app stronger and offer more functions to our users. With the current quarantine and OMV closures, the LA Wallet team decided that license renewal was a top priority. While our support team received requests for license/ID renewals in recent weeks, LA Wallet could not offer that service until the system was fully developed, tested, and launched.
As of now, any changes to the information that appears on a Louisiana resident’s license/ID cannot be altered when renewing through LA Wallet. Additionally, your current home address must match your license/ID. If a resident has moved, they are required by law to update their physical credential to list their current home address.
While LA Wallet, Louisiana government officials, and the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles work together, LA Wallet is owned and operated by Envoc, a private software consulting company based in Baton Rouge.
The simple answer is no. A state-issued license/ID is an official credential that verifies a resident’s identity. For any changes to the identity information on a resident’s license/ID, the resident must visit an OMV location.
No, LA Wallet utilizes a PCI compliant payment process that does not store any payment information. Once the transaction is processed. LA Wallet only stores the license information users provide in order to securely retrieve the user’s full license from the OMV database.
There are multiple reasons you may not be eligible to renew your license/ID through LA Wallet. If the option to renew does not appear at the bottom of the home screen, and you do not see a situation that applies to you, please visit your local OMV.
Your previous renewal was completed through the internet (Express Lane):
Louisiana state law only allows license/ID holders to renew through the internet every other renewal. This means that if you used Express Lane the last time you renewed your license/ID you must visit a physical OMV location to renew your license/ID.
Your current license/ID is invalid.
If your license/ID has been revoked, suspended, or has been expired for more than a year, you are not eligible to renew your license/ID through LA Wallet.
Louisiana state law requires everyone 18 and older to be given the opportunity to register to vote when applying for or renewing their license/ID. When you select to register to vote, you will receive additional paperwork in the mail to complete the registration process.
Once you complete the renewal and payment through LA Wallet, the OMV will process the new physical license and mail it to the address on your license/ID.
Once you've downloaded your own copy of LA Wallet digital driver's license to your smartphone (or other mobile device), you may use it where accepted for age-restricted events or purchases, and for traffic stops or checkpoints when a State Police Officer requests your license. The Louisiana Legislature is reviewing further utilization of this technology, such as official acceptance at airport security and in other states.
UPDATE: Please see where Louisiana passed legislation making LA Wallet equivalent to the plastic issued credential.
